Does natto smell bad? Will it taste weird? The answer is subjective but pretty much yes. Natto will not smell great but it is not a punch in the face kind of smell, more of a subtle off smell.

Watch youtube videos on how to eat but basically mine came with a package of “Natto Sauce” according to google translate, which seemed like soy sauce maybe with a bit of rice vinegar and the other package ended up being a spicy mustard.

After taking apart the packaging and stirring up the natto it was time to dive in. First impression was it was good. The mustard and natto sauce both were good ideas and with out the added flavor from the sauce and mustard it would have been tough to finish. Which was the hard part of the experience, the mustard is a definite help in finishing the portion which is not large. It isn’t that it tastes bad it is just a distinct taste that by itself is in need of something to accompany it. Even the mustard was not really enough even though the small portion was eaten.

There are 2 more portions of natto in the fridge which will have to be consumed. While it is very healthy a proper accompaniment will need to be found. Google will have a solution for sure.
