First, don’t be stupid and try and feed the wildlife!
However, for this Californian it was quite something to see monitor lizards and monkeys living near by.

There are of course other animals but these photos were all taken just within walking distance of the house in Alma, Bukit Mertajam in Penang.
There are also many stray and malnourished dogs and cats so be prepared that you will see this all over Penang.
That’s not all, there is more…
The flora in this tropical country does not disappoint and exotic fruits literally grow everywhere. While you will not see any apples and oranges you do get jack fruit, dragon fruit, mangos, papaya and guava. It was really something to see what is only something available via import at a well stocked grocery store in the California.

Interesting thing is guava and dragon fruit has lots of sugar added to make it the sweet drink we have in the North. The fruit is actually pretty bland, not to say it isn’t good it just isn’t the sugar bomb that you would think after drinking guava nectar from Hawaii.
However it makes for great fruit shakes providing distinct flavor when adding it with pineapple and mango which is of course very sweet fruit when eaten on its own.
In malaysia if you go to a traditional market you can have your pineapple spiral cut that saves as much fruit as possible. My man in Alma was awesome and will post his photo and video when he provides his permission.
The people at the market are all wonderful and even asked about my whereabouts after departing.
